Colour All Around You
2nd April to 31st April
This exhibition is a collaboration between Bernat Klein Foundation and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design exploring the influence of context and surroundings on design. Klein was inspired by the landscape and colours of the Scottish borders. Colour All Around You showcases a new generation of textile designers, inspired by Klein’s pioneering approach to colour. It offers visitors a vibrant exploration of colour – how you look for it, and how to interpret it through design and textiles. You can explore sketchbooks and story boards, ideas for knitted and printed textiles, and personal interpretations of colour. We invite viewers to reflect on how colour can be discovered in new and unexpected ways.
The project was supported by the Bernat Klein Foundation through specialist talks on Klein’s work and our annual BKF Award in recognition of innovative creative practice.

Ñuke Mapu: Threads of Identity
Coming October 2026
Textile artist Andrea Orduna, based in Melrose, presents Ñuke Mapu: Threads of Identity, a large-scale installation honouring the ancestral textile practices and cosmology of the Mapuche people of Chile.
The exhibition brings together 30 suspended textile works and 10 sculptural pieces, exploring themes of territory, memory and poetic resistance. Through textile and form, the installation reflects on cultural identity and the deep connections between land, heritage and storytelling.
Inspired by traditional Mapuche weaving practices, the works invite visitors to consider how textiles can carry history, meaning and resilience across generations.
A Breath of Colour
Coming December 2026
A Breath of Colour is an exhibition of woven wall hangings by textile artist Eta Ingham Lawrie, created on upright tapestry looms.
Inspired by the changing colours and moods of the seasons, as well as the sounds of nature such as birdsong, the works reflect a strong connection to the natural world.
Eta works primarily with wool from local sheep, which she carefully sorts, washes and dyes using traditional plant and mineral dyes. Alongside large felted pieces, she also spins multicoloured yarns which are woven into her tapestries.
To create a rich variety of textures, Eta incorporates techniques such as crochet and knitting, as well as natural elements including seashells and other beachcombed finds. Together, these materials and methods explore a range of themes through colour, texture and craft.
