The Birth of the Old Firm by Henry Foster

The Birth of the Old Firm by Henry Foster

The Birth of the Old Firm

It was the first ever old firm match. The Scottish League had been introduced a few months ago. A game between the two premier Glasgow teams, Rangers, and Celtic. Their rivalries are humungous. Whilst I was walking to the big game you could feel the atmosphere it was tense. There were electric- voices booming out, people smiling, fans mingling with each other having a drink. I walked into Ibrox stadium the home of Rangers FC. The smell of the freshly cut grass smelt amazing, and the pitch was looking first class. Fans sang loudly, waving their bright scarves. The noise was like thunder. The fans started chanting, the music started to play out of the speakers, this was it, the moment everybody had been waiting for. Players started to run out; I could not stop smiling as the two teams ran onto the pitch together for the game ahead today. The crowd cheering even louder as the match began, and I watched every pass and tackle closely. It felt important to be part of this historic moment in Scottish football history. As the game went on the goal opportunities increased. I felt proud to be there, everybody was sharing this moment with each other. The game was coming to an end, but I didn’t want to leave because it had been such a special day. I went there to watch Rangers win that game but sadly Celtic were the better team and were victorious winning the game 5-2. It was just a friendly game to start one of the biggest rivalries matches in football history. As we strolled out of the stadium, I held that moment in my head. The lights were glowing behind us, fans still chanting happily away. I knew I had engraved something special. One day I would tell my friends and family about that match and how it felt so exclusive to be there right from the very beginning.
