The Battle of Stirling Bridge
It was a normal day in Duns 1297 or so it seemed. It was five in the morning when Thomas Derwood heard a mysterious knock at the door, scarily it was already opening when he got downstairs. Suddenly, he became rooted to the spot, who would come calling at this time and not wait for an answer or the door to be opened and why. Then it hit him a war must have been happening, and a Scottish leader must have sent for him he was so amazed to be called that he couldn’t speak, then he became all alert and he realised that he could move again. “What are my orders.” He said. “You are to go and help William Wallace and Andrew Mooray at Stirling bridge.” “Will I be with anyone I know.” He said excitedly. “Yes, Mark McDouie. Come with me and no more questions.” Five hours later They rushed onto the bridge. The battle had begun! “Aaarrrggghhh!” They all shout. The first victims of the battle were already strewn across the ground a few were floating in the water. “Mark you ready for this.” “Course I am.” “William!” Thomas ran over to William Wallace, to save him because he had been snuck up on but out of the corner of his eye, he saw Mark fall, an English soldier standing over him. Then he had the idea of going through the river about a mile away and sneaking up on the English so, they put their plan into action. Eventually the English realised and turned but the Scots took advantage of their enemy’s distraction and killed the lot, by the time the battle had finished the river water was pure scarlet. Then they all went home to their families and to appreciate that they weren’t dead.
