Excuses By Natalia Kamecka

Excuses By Natalia Kamecka

The blinding moon reflected light onto Mary as she carefully walked through the forest flooded with thousands of different creatures. She picked up some fresh herbs for her mother as she is extremely sick with a horrible disease. Planning on heading back, she turns around just to see a… very strange person, standing in front of her, watching. Afraid, she shrieks in terror. She follows the bright orange light coming from the village. She attracted everyone’s attention. “WITCH!” The elderly woman screams. She knows she’s not a witch, “I’m not a witch believe me!” Nobody believes her.

She realises the orange light she was following to get away from the stranger was their torches, they were waiting for her. She tries running away but they quickly react and start to throw their scorching hot torches at her, chanting “BURN THE WITCH! BURN THE WITCH!” They successfully catch her, tying her up and throwing her herbs onto the floor. “No! I need these to help my mother!” Mary says. “That’s just an excuse.” Another person says.

Luckily, she brought a small sharp knife with her. She used it to get the herbs. Suddenly, it starts raining and the cruel people leave her alone to get a different weapon. She struggles to cut the rope when her wrists are tied together. Since she is quite intelligent, she knows she has about 10 seconds left. Cutting the ropes frantically, the ropes stop digging into her wrists. Will she survive? She picks up her things and runs away.

Finally, she arrives at her mother’s farm where she immediately puts her things on the table. Wait…where is her mother…? Even after she checks every single room in the house, she doesn’t find her mother. She only sees her father, holding her mothers freshly decapitated head…
