Battles and tragedy. Kings and queens. War and innovation. Sport and religion. Romans and Vikings. Abbeys, castles… and even a touch of comedy.
Discover 420 million years of Scotland’s history, heritage, innovation and culture at the Great Tapestry of Scotland.
Our award winning, purpose built centre opened in Galashiels in August 2021 and has recently won the Edinburgh Architectural Association: Large Project Award and RICS Scotland: Best Public Building Award.
Our shop champions local and exclusive products inspired by the Tapestry, with 41% sourced from Scottish suppliers and 98% from across the UK, including our exclusive gin, created with a local Selkirk distillery.
You can also unwind in the Stitchers Café, the perfect spot for coffee, cake or a light lunch during your visit.

Our 300 Words Story Writing Competition returns for its third year, and for the first time, it’s open to young writers from all across Scotland.

We are delighted to host a range of diverse kids creative workshops. From Bookbug sessions, block printmaking, collage, clay making, and even filmmaking!

Mary Craig will be doing a reading followed by a Q&A of her new book A History of Scottish Witches, on Friday 6th March at 18:00
